Welcome to part 1 in this series with Samii Emdur, the founder of Camp To Belong, River Valley. 🎙️ Samii joins Mighty MERP to discuss her origin-story.

 In 2018, Samii founded a 501(c)3 called Camp To Belong River Valley, a nonprofit that reunites siblings separated by foster care and/or adoption. CTBRV empowers siblings to build a strong relational foundation and encourages positive connection. CTBRV’s signature program is a week-long overnight camp whose programs are a catalyst for supporting siblings and therefore diminishing trauma.

Samii’s work was recently recognized on The Drew Barrymore Show. She won the 2020 a overachievers grant By Pilot Pen Corporation in conjunction with Priyanka Choppra Jonas, and was featured as an ABC Hometown Hero, and PHL17 Remarkable Woman finalist. Samii looks forward to continuing her mission of supporting biological families and reuniting siblings.

Pediatric Oncology Nurse, Camp director, mom and foster carer

Samii is a mom to her 4-year-old daughter and is currently fostering a 10 month old baby girl. She has fostered 13 children and focuses on building a collaborative relationship with biological parents in order to support reunification, the primary goal. Samii has worked at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia since 2007, primarily as a pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant nurse. She recently began a new endeavor as a Complex Case Manager for both pediatric and adult Oncology patients. Samii’s personal experience as a foster and adoptive mom, inspired her to assess a community need of supporting siblings who become separated by foster care and/or adoption.
